Information You Choose to Send
Terms Entered in Search Tools
A name, location, or other query entered in an embedded search tool is transmitted to the third-party provider operating that tool. We do not store or log those search terms on this site.
Messages to the Site
If you send an email or contact-form message, we retain its contents and contact details as needed to answer. We do not share that correspondence outside our organization unless a legal requirement compels disclosure.
Technical Information Collected During Visits
Standard server, analytics, or advertising systems may automatically record:
- the visitor’s IP address;
- browser name and version;
- device category and operating system;
- pages viewed and time spent on them;
- the referring website, when supplied; and
- the date and time of each request.
Cookies and Similar Storage
Cookies help measure how visitors navigate and use the site. A browser can reject or delete cookies, though blocking them may change how certain features work.
Reasons We Use Collected Data
- to operate the site and maintain reasonable performance;
- to send a requested search to the appropriate partner;
- to understand which guides visitors find useful;
- to diagnose and repair technical problems; and
- to display advertising that may be relevant to a visitor’s interests.
Leaving for Another Website
Links may lead to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, courts, Kentucky Department of Corrections, federal locators, official records resources, or third-party search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination’s privacy terms govern its collection and use of information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to recognize activity across websites and select interest-based ads. That tracking occurs under those companies’ practices, not as a Washington County government function.
Parties That May Receive Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be provided to:
- search partners that process a visitor’s query;
- analytics providers that measure site use;
- advertising networks that deliver or evaluate ads; and
- law-enforcement or government authorities acting under a valid legal order.
Security Is a Best-Effort Practice
We use ordinary safeguards appropriate to an informational website. No internet service, storage system, or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
This Site Is for Adults
The site is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect a minor’s personal information. If a minor submitted information, contact us through the Contacts page so a deletion request can be reviewed.
Choices About Personal Data
Subject to applicable law and reasonable identity verification, a person may ask to:
- receive a copy of personal data we hold;
- correct inaccurate personal information;
- erase eligible personal data; or
- opt out of certain processing.
Changes to This Notice
We may revise these practices as the site or applicable requirements change. An updated notice becomes effective when posted here with a revised effective date.
